Digby
Poodle
Sex: neutered male
Age: 9 Years
Size: 14 lbs
Digby is a young neutered male 14 lb Miniature Poodle. Digby was rescued from a high kill shelter where he was brought in as a stray, so we have no known history on him. We have seen him be very affectionate and happy with all people that he meets. Digby has shown us that he loves playing with some other dogs about his size once he gets to know them and be comfortable with them, and will share a good game of tug with toys with his dog pals. But he also demonstrated that he can have a lot of trouble getting acquainted with dogs he does not know. So he needs proper introduction when meeting unfamiliar dogs. Digby is occasionally fearful and unsure about some common items in the world like some common noises, objects common to us but he isn't quite sure what they are. - His behavior with dogs and some apprehension about some things in the environment could be the result of some trauma that he experienced as a puppy during the critical imprinting period. We have discussed this with our behaviorist and veterinarians and believe that Digby has severe OCD, obsessive compulsive disorder. We have seen marked improvement during the time we have had him and using positive reinforcement behavior training, but it just hasn't been enough. We have recently begun medication treatment as well. Digby is currently still in rehabilitation and not yet available for adoption. When Digby is ready for adoption his adopter will be provided behavior training by K-9 PALS so we are seeking an adoption for Digby in the Santa Barbara CA area. The process for adoption for Digby requires a 1. completed application, 2. home visit and interview/meet with all family/household members, and 3. adoption fee 4. Ongoing positive reinforcement behavior training and possible lifetime medications. Contact info@k-9pals.org for more information. If you would like to be considered for adoption of Digby please email us for a no obligation application, or go to our "how to adopt" page and click on "adoption application".
